FAQ
What happens after I submit?
You land on a short confirmation page. Your request goes to Garage Door Quote first, and no contractor is notified automatically. If a local garage door company covers your ZIP, it may contact you by phone or email about this request. Not every ZIP has a match, so check spam for email.
Is this free for homeowners?
Yes. Submitting the quote form on this site does not charge you. Any price for repair or a new door comes from the company that contacts you.
Who contacts me?
A local garage door company that can cover your ZIP. You choose whether to schedule a visit or hire anyone.
What is your door doing?
Find the line that matches, read the short fix notes, then come back to the form if it needs a pro.
Door will not move
- Loud bang, then the door will not lift. Usually a snapped spring.
- Opener hums but the door stays shut. Spring, trolley, or a lock still set.
- Door stuck halfway and will not budge. Cable, track, spring, or ice.
- A roller hangs out of the track. Stop the opener and keep clear.
- You pulled the red cord and the opener will not grab. Trolley still free or the door is too heavy.
- Power is out and the door will not open. Pull the release only with the door closed.
Door will not close right
- Door starts down, then goes back up. Midway it is often the floor eyes, at the slab it is travel or force.
- Door stops a few inches off the floor. Short travel, seal, or ice on the sill.
- Little lights by the floor keep blinking. Dirty or bumped safety eyes.
- One side hangs lower or a cable looks frayed. Stop using it until it is checked.
Remote, keypad, or a door with a mind of its own
- You hit the remote and nothing happens. Batteries, wall lock, or power.
- Keypad beeps but the door ignores you. Pad batteries or a lost code.
- Door opens by itself at night. Stuck button, stray remote, or old code.
New noise
- Screech or squeal every time it opens. Dry rollers and hinges.
- Opener grinds like gravel and the door barely moves. Worn opener gear.
Some other sound? Match it in the garage door sound guide. Wondering if the door is worth fixing at all? The part by part repair or replace table shows what usually tips the choice. Never adjust a spring or cable yourself. Those parts hold the weight of the door.
